Montana Local Coordinator

Local Coordinators

The SafeSport Coordinator will be the facilitator of the program on behalf of your local organization and report any violations of the policy or incidents of abuse. The role of coordinator will include the following.

  1. Draft and provide annual updates to your association SafeSport Handbook. This will include working with your Board of Directors to establish not only your SafeSport policy, but specific policies within the organization for compliance with SafeSport regarding a Locker Room Policy, Travel Policy, Electronic Communication Policy and if necessary Billet Policy.
  2. Provide a means to educate your association staff about the USA Hockey, MAHA and association SafeSport policies (all of which should be very similar). This means Board Members, Employees, Volunteers, Hockey Director, Coaches, Players and Parents. You can do these as individual training sessions or as a combined event. As a reference, an association can have a a group SafeSport training session during Coaching Clinics. They can also have a group parent training session at the team level.
  3. Be the objective and non-partial resource for reporting of incidents. The Safe Sport Coordinator will be the individual that any reports come through at the association level. It will be your job to determine how to process the incident. Every report should be documented and escalated for review and/or disciplinary action (with a copy to MAHA SafeSport Director). If the report is a matter of abuse, a report should be documented and then escalated to the appropriate authorities for investigation. Copy MAHA Director on all reports of abuse where local authorities are involved. The MAHA Director will report to USAHockey.
  4. Provide your training completion certificates to Kari Riley so she can verify that your association is compliant with the 2015-2016 certification requirements.
  5. Provide monthly updates to your Board/Association on the status of the association SafeSport program and any updates that MAHA or USA Hockey may distribute.
  6. Provide monthly updates to MAHA Safe Sport Director with the provided spreadsheet.
  7. Look for opportunities throughout the season to discuss and keep SafeSport on the forefront of the hockey season.

All local programs shall promptly notify the MAHA SafeSport Director of all reports for an investigation, hearing or other proceeding within their program that involve violations of the USA Hockey SafeSport Policies or the SafeSport Handbook.
